There was no problem getting on the base at all, but when we were walking into the pharmacy they were not going to let Tiffany and I in, because we do not have a military ID card. I explained to the guy I have to be there to make sure my parents give the prescription's correctly. I think the only reason he let us in was because Tiffany batted her pretty blue eye at him or maybe because she is pregnant.
Since we have to wait an hour for the medication to be filled we decided to head over to the commissary and get some groceries. Poor Mom we got her one of the scooters to ride around in the store but it was having major problems. Every time Mom would stop the scooter it would continue to go but not forward it would go backwards. She would have to turn it completely off each time she wanted to stop. By the time she was done shopping and on our way out to the car she was a total nervous wreck.
Well if the story ended here it wouldn't be as exciting so here is best part of the story.
Just as we were trying to get off the base to go home, the base went on HIGH alert and they LOCKED down the entire base. They were not allowing anyone off or on the base at all. There was military police blocking roads and walking up and down the streets. Come to find out they were evacuating half the base. Supposedly there was a situation happening at one of the gas stations on the base. We sat in a long line of other cars that were trying to get off too. I asked the man in charge if there was any way we could go to a different exit and get of the base because my Mom is on oxygen. He told me NO and if she runs out take her to the base hospital.
We now have a lot of groceries and a lot of medication in the truck of the car and it is 100 degrees out side.
We ended up walking around another store on the base it is called the BX. I love that store and now Tiffany loves it too. She found lots of stuff she wants.
2 1/2 hours later we were told we could leave the base now. Yippee!!!!
By now we are all starving and needed food really really bad. We enjoyed a nice late lunch at the Olive Garden. We dropped Tiffany off at her house then headed home. We were all extremely tired.
Watching the 5:00pm news they talked about what had happened on the base today. Well come to find out it was just an exercise, they were practicing just in case something happens. I really wish they would have told us when we entered the base. It was a little scary not knowing what was going on.
